Every year, the team at Breast Cancer Action attends the largest breast cancer conference in the world, the San Antonio Breast Cancer Symposium (SABCS).

This year, we will be in virtual attendance from December 5th to the 9th, with a critical mindset and a patient-centered framework, and most importantly, on behalf of people living with and at risk of breast cancer.

At a conference largely funded by Big Pharma and geared toward a medical audience, we will maintain our watchdog lens. The following are questions that will inform our blog posts, updates, and analysis this year:

  • What progress has been made toward fair, equitable, and affordable medicine for all?
  • Are new treatments less toxic than what is currently available? And will they improve quality of life and extend overall survival?
  • What is the latest research on the social determinants of health for people living with breast cancer?

We’ll be tuning in to presentations, panel sessions, and workshops that cover themes including prevention, new research on early detection, treatment outcomes of performing less surgery, progress in the treatment of HER2+ breast cancer, the impact of social determinants on breast cancer care, and much more.

Throughout this week we’ll be posting rapid responses on our Instagram and Facebook social media pages. Follow us on both platforms to stay up-to-date. We’ll post our critical take on the latest research on our website in early January 2024, so keep your eye out for our updates. You can read our blog posts from last year on our website while we work on providing you with this year’s analysis.

As always, we are grateful for your continuous support that makes it possible for us to do this important work. We will continue to use our independent, watchdog voice on behalf of people living with and at risk of breast cancer to tackle the root causes of breast cancer.
