By The Breast Cancer Action Team

As you know, in this year’s Think Before You Pink® campaign we’re calling out the Pink Ribbon Banking Program, a partnership between Susan G. Komen® and Bank of America.

We’re going back to the basics of pinkwashing to expose a program that slaps pink ribbons on bank cards, a blatant assault on the goodwill of the breast cancer community. Susan G. Komen® lets Bank of America get away with using this tactic to increase its profits and then fund the fossil fuel industry, the same industry that increases our risk of breast cancer by exposing us to environmental toxins throughout the fossil fuel continuum.

Here are ALL the ways you can take action to put a stop to this pink ribbon partnership now!

1. The most important action: Send an email to Susan G. Komen®

Use our easy advocacy tool to join us in our boldest, most unapologetic action yet: Email Susan G. Komen® directly and urge them to phase out the Pink Ribbon Banking Program with Bank of America. All you need to do is add your name and hit send; we’ve pre-written the email draft for you.

Join us in letting Komen know “If you truly want to be where the end of breast cancer begins, you need to stop facilitating the harms proliferated by the fossil fuel industry through this pinkwashed partnership. It’s time to phase out the Pink Ribbon Banking Program with Bank of America.”

Stop Banking on Breast Cancer. Add Your Voice Now.

2. Share this graphic calling on Susan G. Komen® to stop banking on breast cancer and divest from pinkwashing across your Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram platforms. And don’t hold back – tag @SusanGKomen and @BankofAmerica to be sure they see it. Tag us at @bcaction and we’ll uplift your posts. Find further instructions here.

3. Join us for the Global Day of Action to Defund Climate Chaos and Fossil Fuels

On Friday, October 29th, one of the final days of our October Think Before You Pink® campaign, the Youth Climate Finance Alliance along with several coalition partners is hosting a global, youth-led Fossil Free Future Day of Action.

We’re thrilled these values-aligned organizations are calling out fossil fuel funders during the final week of our Stop Banking on Breast Cancer campaign, and Breast Cancer Action staff will be at the San Francisco march to show our solidarity and support.

If you’re in the Bay Area and looking to get involved in direct action, meet BCAction staff at 400 Howard St. in San Francisco at 9:00 AM on Friday, October 29. If you plan on attending, let us know you’ll be there by emailing action@bcaction.org and we will reach out to you with more details.

There are also events in Seattle, Chicago, Boston, Houston, and other cities. For more information and to get involved, learn more here.

Thank you for joining us in action – YOU are our power. If you’ve already taken action, please share our campaign with friends and family, and explain why Susan G. Komen®’s cause marketing partnerships with for-profit entities that cause breast cancer are so problematic.

Over the years we’ve achieved outsized wins through our collective demands for change, let’s do it again!
