BIG NEWS: Tomorrow, Wednesday, July 25th, there will be a vote on the Safe Chemicals Act, a bill that would protect us from toxic chemicals. This will be the first time this bill will be voted on and it will take place in the Senate’s Environment and Public Works (EPW) Committee.
Let your Senator know it is vital we have the strongest possible version of the Safe Chemicals Act and that it is essential that each of us in all communities are protected from toxic chemicals.
Breast Cancer Action is committed to stopping breast cancer before it starts by eliminating involuntary exposures to chemicals linked to breast cancer. We are proud to join our partners across the country in the Safer Chemicals, Healthy Families Coalition (SCHFC) in urging Congress to vote on the strongest possible version of the Safe Chemicals Act, which would put the burden for chemical testing and protection from harm where it belongs—on our regulatory system.
Our current ‘innocent until proven guilty’ standards of chemical regulation favor the chemical industry over individual health and safety. The responsibility for our health and safety cannot fall to individuals to decipher which ingredients may or may not be safe. Even if we buy the ‘right’ products, we’re exposed daily on so many fronts to toxic chemicals.
We need you to take action right now and tell your Senator that you support the Safe Chemicals Act and want them to vote to protect public health. Send an email to your Senator letting them know you’ll be watching and following the results of this vote.
You can make a difference. Tell Congress they need to put our health first.
