BCA mourns the loss of our beloved board member Ellen Lew, who died on August 24, 2006. She was first diagnosed with breast cancer in 1992 when she was 31 years old, and developed metastatic disease in 1996.
Ellen’s response to her disease and to the epidemic was to get involved at the community level here in the San Francisco Bay Area. Her breast cancer activism spanned well over a decade as she attended community outreach trainings and conferences, wrote letters to the editor, and learned as much as possible about this disease. She had been a member of BCA’s board since 1999, and was passionate about providing women with the tools and information necessary to do something besides worry about breast cancer.
Ellen was a painter, a devoted member of her San Francisco-based family, and an avid fan of the San Francisco Giants. Go Giant
